Population

The College Station Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 82,366 in 1970 to 228,660 in 2010. That was an increase of 177.6 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 1,895 in 1970 to 25,471 in 2010. That was an increase of 1244.1 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 2.3 percent to 11.1 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 152.5 percent.

Sources of Population Change

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the principal factor in adding population in all periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, NDM replaced B-D as the main source of added population in the two most recent periods.
